My
work is inspired by direct experience of the natural world
around me whether it is the broad lines of landscape or
the textures of seed heads in my garden. I use these as
a springboard for my imagination to create dramatic spaces
that the spectator can explore.
In
some paintings I focus on elements in the landscape that
are meaningful to me – horizon lines, trees, the
texture of rock or twigs and leaves. Sometimes these elements
are recognisable, sometimes they become abstract suggestions
to express the strong spiritual presence that resides
in Nature.
In
other paintings the more intimate, man-made, world of
the garden has been the inspiration. Flowers, stems and
seed heads become actors in a drama or develop personalities
of their own hinting at a world beyond the obvious.
Every
painting is truly individual and no two works are ever
the same. Canvas sizes vary from 20 x 20 cm up to large
works 150 cm wide. Prices range from £150 to about
£1,500.
